Here’s a poem that I have written for performing at the Ekka:
I once held an announcing job in Brisbane Radio
and my first outside broadcast, was the Van and Camping show
The station was ‘more news and better music 4KQ’
and we were tickled pink to get to do this doozy do
Back then, the shows location was the Rocklea Wool Shed site
Technicians checked the system and assured me ‘She’ll be right’
I bunged a long play record on and ducked out for a squizz
at all the latest caravans (the best ones in the biz!)
I loved their style and comfort and I made a solemn vow
one day I’d get one of my own, somewhere, somewhen, somehow
I strolled back to the sound stage but I ran fast out of luck
the record player needle had got stuck, click, stuck, click , stuck
Perhaps you know that Classic 4KQ is heard no more
but when one door gets closed, there will be others (that’s for sure)
And I’m so proud to say I’ve now achieved my life long goal
I bought a van and now we plan, to let the good times roll, click roll, click roll…
Paul Wincen,
Alexandra Hills.
