LEAF festival takes flight at Meadowbrook

Logan’s major environment and sustainability festival will return to Meadowbrook next month with a focus on birdlife and waterways.

The Logan Eco Action Festival will celebrate the theme “Wings along our Waterways”, with talks, hands-on workshops, activities, market stalls and a creative kids’ zone.

Logan Mayor Jon Raven said he hoped the whole community would come along.

“If you care about the environment, this will be a great low-cost day out for the whole family,” Cr Raven said.

The annual event, run by Logan City Council, is one of south-east Queensland’s largest environment and sustainability festivals, bringing together experts and conservationists for a day of interactive activities designed to inspire and educate.

This year’s program includes award-winning international designer, author and television presenter Jamie Durie and ABC’s What the Duck podcast host Ann Jones.

Young conservationist Spencer Hitchen, who is dedicated to protecting the Glossy Black-Cockatoo, long-time local conservation advocate Annette Bird and Andrew Dinwoodie from the Logan-based Powerful Owl Project will also feature.

Wildlife Unleashed will present live bird shows and reptile encounters throughout the day.

Flagstone business Bee All Natural will also take part, showcasing sustainable, nature-friendly products and hosting a native bee presentation.

Eco-friendly market stalls and food vendors will be part of the free event.

The Logan Wardrobe Rummage will also return, creating awareness about fast fashion and sustainability by giving pre-loved clothing and items a second life.

Rummage stalls will sell clothing, fashion accessories, home bric-a-brac, books, comics, magazines and small potted plants.

The festival will be held at Griffith University’s Logan campus at Meadowbrook from 9am to 3pm on Sunday 7 June.
