The question Logan ratepayers should be asking themselves is whether the Crime and Corruption Commission is following the example of the New South Wales Independent Commission against Corruption – that is, a lot of sound and fury, smeared reputations and not much else.
How do you possibly explain the decision to sack an entire council – make public charges of fraud against seven councillors and mayor Luke Smith?
Prosecutors dropped the charges last month with only the former mayor facing trial.
The decision to hold a public inquiry is long overdue.
But it’s hard to see how this will restore the reputation of the councillors.
It is hard to see how the CCC – well paid and well resourced – managed to not only bungle the Logan investigation as well as try to interfere in a related matter before the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission.
I hope that MyCity Logan continues to report on this matter – Logan ratepayers deserve to know how this was so royally stuffed up.
