Here’s what Logan gets out of the state budget

Education, transport, housing and health projects across Logan were allocated funding during what proved to be a big week for budgets.

As part of the new state government’s first budget, millions of dollars were earmarked for schools, local community groups, roads and more.

This includes funding for new special schools in Beenleigh and central Logan, and a new multipurpose hall at Shailer Park State High.

Community housing across the city was given a $52.1 million boost to deliver 172 social houses already under construction or under contract.

About $10 million was earmarked for the resumption of the Beenleigh courthouse, which will be moved down the road to make way for rail upgrades.

New ambulance stations at either ends of the city have been confirmed, with the state budget allocating $16.5 million for one at Beenleigh and $8.1 million to replace the existing one at Springwood.

Both of these projects were advocated for by local MPs under the previous government.

Two million dollars has been reserved for anti-hooning cameras for Rochedale South, Springwood, Daisy Hill, Shailer Park and Priestdale.

There will be $5.6 million of upgrades to the Cornubia Park Sporting Precinct and $300,000 of upgrades to the Slacks Creek Rugby League Football Club field.

Logan East Community Neighbourhood Centre will be given $450,000 to support its Community Connect Program, the Beenleigh theatre group Phoenix Ensemble $90,000 to upgrade its floor and add brand new seating and fresh carpet, and Underwood Park $2 million for car park upgrades.

In the transport sector, $600 million will be allocated to building the Faster Rail, POLAIR flight schedule hours will increase with $4 million of funding, and Mount Lindesay Highway will receive $7 million in upgrades between Jimboomba and Beaudesert.

Logan Hospital was allocated $874.7 million to build 112 new beds and increase surgical capacity as part of the major expansion project started by the previous government.
