When we committed to MyCity Logan in June, we knew it would take three months of planning to develop proof of concept.
So we set a launch date of October 3, trusting that some people in the community would take a punt on our ability to produce a quality product. They did, and we wouldn’t be here without them.
Now, as we celebrate our 10th edition, we have added people to our team, we have a reliable and committed distribution agent, some remarkable people are volunteering their valuable time to help us reach more effectively into our community, and we are developing a network of people who are embracing our mission to be a meeting point of information.
I have spoken previously about the letters I receive from groups, and while time prevents us from attending as many community events as we like, we are relying on you to send us photos, to tell us what is happening in your neighbourhood, and to inform us about upcoming events, meetings and gatherings.
I see it as my job not only to impart the knowledge that comes with 30 years in journalism. I see it as my obligation to listen, to hear your thoughts and to truly reflect our growing, vibrant suburbs.
This week, I received a very kind note from someone who provided me with three highly valuable suggestions.
As a result, there is a story about dump vouchers in this edition. There will also be other helpful additions to the newspaper in the lead up to Christmas.
I feel it is not only our obligation to listen, but to then act in a way we are able to provide you with an alternative voice.
All information must come from somewhere. Our job is to sort through the information we have, to identify what is of public interest, and to present it in a way that is fair to you, our readers.
If we are successful, we will be a place you can visit, and trust – a gathering place, where you discuss issues, feel good about yourself and where you live, and know that there are people out there who have your back.
Logan is an exemplar in having each other’s back. So here we are, like everyone else, having a go, hoping you as a community will have our back too as we become bigger, bolder and most importantly, louder.
I’m seeing examples of it every week – I can’t thank Logan enough for that.
