Green credentials celebrated at LEAF – Mayor Darren Power

For many in our community, the City of Logan’s rich natural environment and green credentials are a source of pride.

Our commitment to the environment earnt international recognition last year, receiving two awards at the 2022 World Green City Awards, presented in South Korea.

We are home to Australia’s first biosolids gasification facility in Loganholme, which converts sewage sludge into an environmentally friendly biochar.

There are 962 conservation reserves and parks across the city, and a further 6170 hectares of wildlife habitat providing a safe haven for our native wildlife and flora.

We are also one of the largest harvesters of solar energy in the city, with solar PV systems installed on Council libraries, aquatic and sports centres.

Our city’s passion and dedication for protecting and enhancing our natural environment will be on show at the Logan Eco Action Festival (LEAF) this Sunday, June 4, at the Griffith University Campus in Meadowbrook.

Held on World Environment Day, LEAF will see people from Logan and across Australia come together to explore and discover how we can all lead more sustainable lives. Entry is free.

Craig Reucassel from the ABC’s War on Waste, and gardener, chef and Grow it Local co-founder Paul West headline the extensive list of leading sustainability experts who will speak at LEAF.

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about a range of topics, including growing your own food, sustainable fashion, vertical gardens and worm farms, and participate in hands-on activities like building a small bird habitat.

The latest advances in environmentally conscious technology will be showcased at LEAF, alongside new exhibits and presentations that will share innovative ways we can all lead more sustainable lives.

LEAF isn’t just for grown-ups either, with plenty of activities for kids on offer too including wildlife encounters and interactive performances.

It’s going to be a fantastic day out, and I look forward to joining the community at LEAF as we all work towards a sustainable and green future.
