Green bins ready for rollout

Residents will be able to get a new green waste bin from Logan City Council from July 1.

But there’s a catch. The opt-in service requires residents to order the bin through council by April 25.

And if you think you’ve already done that, think again. Anyone who has previously registered their expression of interest will have to make a new call to council.

The cost for a 140-litre bin is $46 per year, a 240-litre bin$51 per year, or a 360-litre bin ($76 per year). A minimum commitment of 12 months is required.

Green waste bins are available to all residents, including tenants.

Deputy mayor Jon Raven said green bins are an easy, convenient and affordable way to dispose of garden waste.

“We recycle the garden waste into compost which is great for the environment and keeps that waste out of landfill,” Cr Raven said.

They will be collected fortnightly on the opposite week to recycling bin collection.

The new green bin waste service will have no impact on existing waste and recycling collections.

Those who order a green waste bin before April 25 have the opportunity to win one of 25 vouchers valued at $200. Terms and conditions apply.

To register go to: logan.qld.gov.au/greenwastebin or call 3412 3412.
