Spring-Dale Garden Club celebrated its 40th birthday last month with a cake and plenty of memories.
The club started from small beginnings with 29 members in 1982. It now has 76.
“Our club still enjoys the same spirit of friendship, respect, and love of gardening as it started with so many years ago,” a representative said.
The name Spring-Dale came from the combination of the two suburbs Springwood and Rochedale.
Over the past 40 years the club has seen many changes and challenges. Early in 2020, members not only faced Covid, but were also confronted with the closure of Nerida Street Community Hall.Â
Meetings for 2021 were held at Springlife Conference Centre while a more suitable permanent venue was located. Meetings commenced at Slacks Creek Soccer Club, Daisy Hill in 2022.
“The tradition of the club has been to give back to the community and this continues to be part of the fabric of the club,” the representative said.
“Each December donations (both monetary and goods) are made to a nominated local charity. Over the years our club has helped aid flood and drought relief, worked on community projects and when called upon, our members give generously.”
At the birthday celebration, Jean Davies presented the club with three large photo albums covering the 40-year history of the club which she has been updating on over the last 10 years. Newer members also signed a white tablecloth which was started in 1988.
