The founder of Zarraffa’s Coffee and developer of Distillery Road Market (DRM), Kenton Campbell, has brought his next venture to Logan – beer brewing.

Perentie Brewing Co. will open its doors in December, with invites to the $6 million facility at DRM extended to lager-loving locals.

Mr Campbell said a brewery at Logan was always in his sights.

“I’m beyond proud and pleased to say that we are almost ready to officially open the doors to what was always a clear vision for me when I acquired the DRM site in 2015 – to build a bespoke, local brewery,” he said.

“Lager beers are the heart and soul of beer in my opinion, and I wanted to develop a space that had the ability to carefully craft and responsibly serve up perfect – quality lager beers for the local Aussie palate.”

The one-million-litre brewery will offer three different beers: Summer Dry, a mid-strength lager; Pure Crisp, a clean crisp lager; and Komodo Black, a dark lager.

The beers are brewed using “traditional German brewing techniques” to produce a distinct and “unmistakably Australian taste” – a concept at the heart of the business.

“I want Perentie to be a truly localised experience that makes space for authentic moments of relaxation and enjoyment and notably for those moments when you take that long, cold sip and stop to appreciate the here and now,” Mr Campbell said.

The brewery is named after Australia’s largest monitor lizard, the perentie, which is native to the outback.

“The perentie is our emblem which embodies the spirit and essence of the Australian wild, and in the outback, they treasure every drop, and so do we.”

Adjacent to the brewery is a beer garden, which overlooks the Albert River and has views of Logan’s historic Beenleigh Rum Distillery.

The outdoor precinct has seating for over 200 guests, while the inside features a mix of hardwood, concrete and metals, and views of Perentie’s brewing tanks.

Beer will be accompanied by the Perentie Kitchen, featuring the Perentie Smash Burger, and a Prawn and Bug Roll.

DRM is also set to open a brand-new entertainment and casual dining facility called The F.E.D (Food and Entertainment District).

This venue will host up to 2000 guests, as well as food, drinks, entertainment and live music.

“DRM will continue our commitment to supporting the local music scene by creating another home for live entertainment in the southeast, something near and dear to our hearts,” Mr Campbell said.

“It will also house our existing onsite outlets Posadas Cantina and Sugar Creek Smokehouse, which will move to their new indoor locations, as well as a bill of new unique and flavoursome outlets due to open by 2024.”

Perentie Brewing Co. and The F.E.D will open on Saturday 16 December at Distillery Road Market.
