At least one gymnasium across the city will this week be providing free access in the name of mental health.
At least one in four people will experience some form of mental health issues in any given year – something which psychologists say is magnified this year due to isolation and economic issues.
Other statistics have suggested less than half of these people will seek help.
Suicide is the leading cause of death in Australians aged 14-44.
Snap Fitness clubs at Browns Plains, Meadowbrook and Loganholme will open their doors free for mental health week this week, and will be fundraising for mental health charity LIVIN throughout October.
Company CEO Chris Caldwell said there were strong links between physical and mental health.
“The existing mental health issues our society is suffering has been heightened this year with the global pandemic, so it’s never been more important for the entire country to get behind this cause and do something to create positive change in their communities.”
LIVIN founder Casey Lyons said it was timely to focus on overall health and wellbeing, both physical and mental.
“2020 has been a challenging year for everyone, taking a serious toll on those who suffer from mental health issues and those who may be experiencing these issues for the first time,” Mr Lyons said.
“LIVIN was created to break the stigma of mental health and we are asking everyone to take some time to focus on their mental health this month.”
