With a population of more than 345,000 people that is expected to grow to 500,000 by 2036 it is important that high quality urban design is prioritised and realised within the City of Logan.
Last week council committed to placing urban design at the forefront of its priorities to manage the future growth of the city.
The Urban Design Framework (UDF) endorsed at the council meeting details how the council will guide high quality urban design outcomes in our future investment decisions.
The UDF is not a statutory document however, it will shape and guide discussions related to urban design across the city.
This is something I’ve been passionate about for a long time and we are responding to our community who have told us that raising the standard of design across the city is a priority.
We are demanding better from our developers, it’s not just about how houses and homes look but the environment around them, the street layouts, the parks and public spaces that shape our community.
Design is important to our city, we want to see well considered areas that improve liveability, make our city more attractive to investment and just a better city to live, work and play.
The UDF has a dual purpose. Firstly, it will inform the new planning scheme, Logan Plan 2025. Secondly it identifies key urban design issues to be addressed in the short, medium and long term.
The framework builds on community consultation and key priorities along with best practice design outcomes to create a vision for the delivery of Council infrastructure. We are a city with a rich diversity in our people and places and we know that by implementing good urban design we can deliver high-performing communities where people and businesses can thrive.
We want our neighbourhoods to feature welcoming homes of different designs and interesting well-maintained streets. We want development to be well-planned, better connected and with employment areas that attract industries and businesses that will support a strong local economy.
The plans we put in place now are the foundations to achieve our vision for future generations.
