The construction of Beenleigh Steel Fabrications’ new $12 million facility at Berrinba has been completed.
The steel produced at the factory over the last 40 years has served as the foundation for many Queensland landmarks, including Suncorp Stadium and the Gabba.
Beenleigh Steel had little choice but to expand after outgrowing its Crestmead facility due to demand from projects such as the Cross River Rail, Queen’s Wharf Terminal and Kangaroo Point Green Bridge.
According to the company’s director, Anthony Stoecker, the new facility would doubled production capacity.
“Everyone at Beenleigh Steel is thrilled to have moved into the new facility and to be fully operational,” Mr Stoecker said.
“We’re already experiencing notable productivity gains thanks to the new, state-of-the-art equipment, and the sustainability features and extra floor space will be a game-changer for us into the future.
“We’ve worked hard over the past 40 years to build a solid reputation in the industry by being innovative and client-focused, and we’re expecting our growth trajectory to more than double into the future.
“Logan has always been our home and we’re excited to be launching into this new phase of growth still firmly embedded in our local community.”
The opening was attended by the state treasurer Cameron Dick and federal treasurer Jim Chalmers.
Mr Dick said the facility would create 59 new jobs.
“The Palaszczuk Government’s Jobs and Regional Growth Fund strategically supported Beenleigh Steel knowing the construction of a new facility would provide a boost to the local economy at a time when it was much needed,” Mr Dick said.
“It’s especially for Logan’s young people who may be looking to start their career through a traineeship or apprenticeship in a solid trade where there will be great prospects well into the future.”
The Berrinba facility falls under Mr Chalmers electorate, and he has labelled it “a vote of confidence in the local community”.
“We are grateful for the investment in good, secure, well-paid jobs in our area,” Mr Chalmers said.
“It’s a source of pride that BSF is making such a big contribution to iconic infrastructure projects especially in Queensland.”
