A young woman’s body was found by firefighters this morning near a Browns Plains BMX track.
Fire crews were called to Centenary Plains BMX Club on Waller Road at around 5.30am after reports of a grass fire.
The fire was extinguished and the remains of a “young lady” who was “affected by a fire” were found.
Logan district detective inspector Chris Knight said it wasn’t necessarily a suspicious death, but it was an “unexplained death”.
He refused to identify the woman, but said police believed she was local.
“Anyone who might have seen the young lady walking around between 3 and 5.30 this morning, we would like to hear from you – please contact crimestoppers,” he said.
“We’ve established an investigation centre at Logan police station… and the crime scene here will be maintained… for at least today.”
The BMX club released a statement on Friday morning, announcing the track would be closed “until futher notice”.
“Sadly our track is currently an active crime scene and this means no one can be there, please avoid the area and be respectful of this difficult situation,” the statement read.
