The Logan District Crime Prevention Unit has released a series of tips for local homeowners and business owners to help reduce crime in the area.
“Crime prevention is everyone’s responsibility and with your assistance we can ensure Logan remains a great place to live and work,” a Logan police statement read.
Police’s tips for homeowners are:
- Ensure all external doors of your home, including your garage, are solid and fitted with quality deadlocks.
- Consider fitting security screen doors, designed and installed to Australian Standards.
- Consider fitting secure locks to your windows which meet Australian Standards and never leave the keys in the window lock.
- Consider installing an intruder alarm system and security camera system that covers all external doors, windows and garage. Ensure the system is installed to Australian Standards for domestic applications.
- Always ensure car keys and house keys, together with mobile phones, handbags and wallets, are stored out of sight.
Police’s tips for business owners are:
- Place warning signs around your business to deter offenders for example: ‘no cash kept on premises’ stickers which your local crime prevention office can provide.
- Ensure clear visibility inside and outside your business by using good lighting and keeping your business free of clutter.
- Establish secure cash handling and banking procedures for your business.
- Install solid external doors and consider fitting quality locks such as deadbolts or deadlocks.
- Consider installing a safe which is always securely anchored to the wall or floor and keep it locked.
- Consider CCTV cameras and a security alarm.
- Regularly train your staff in business security practices and procedures including armed robbery awareness training, which your local crime prevention office can assist with.
Remember to report all suspicious activity and any offences of your knowledge, including Policelink online reporting, or over the phone on 131 444.
