Construction of a new clubhouse at Yarrabilba’s McKinnon Sports Park South began this week and is expected to be completed by mid-2026.
The new clubhouse, which will be used by the Yarrabilba tigers touch football team, visiting teams and spectators, will have changerooms, first aid rooms and offices, the council said.
Logan City Council has invested $3.5 million in construction and associated costs, to improve sporting facilities for club members who range from ages eight to 18.
Mayor Jon Raven said the clubhouse was important infrastructure to accommodate Logan’s growing population, particularly for young people.
“Yarrabilba is a popular home for young families, and we’re seeing kids of all ages get involved in sports in our parks and sports fields,” Cr Raven said.
“These fields are the home grounds for hundreds of young athletes with
bright futures.
“Our city continues to be one of the fastest growing in Australia, and delivering community assets is a priority for Council.”
Councillor Nathan St Ledger said the clubhouse would bring residents in Yarrabilba and Logan together, and that he was proud to deliver this milestone.
“As someone who’s coached junior football for more than 20 years, I see firsthand the confidence, skills, and lifelong friendships kids get from playing in a club,” Cr St Ledger said.
Southern Queensland and Border Districts president Matthew Gilbertson said he hoped the clubhouse would encourage more young people to participate in community sport.
“Every year we get even more interest in football and more young people wanting to get involved, we expect 2026 to be a huge year for the Tigers,” Mr Gilberston said.
“This clubhouse will provide much-needed facilities for players of all ages, and we can’t wait to see more incredible young athletes from Logan make it to the major leagues.”
