Heaven help us, we now have more junk to litter our streets and as well as abandoned shopping trollies, we now have the Beam Purple Scooters rubbishing our suburbs.
They are supposed to be parked appropriately as to not block access on footpaths and other places where they may represent a danger to the public.
I continue to see them parked doing just that and in spite of Beam informing me they have in place financial deterrents for users who do the wrong thing, these deterrents can be worked around and the field evidence is in plain view every day, it simply is not working.
Whilst these scooters may work in high tourist spots such as the Gold Coast and Brisbane City, it does not follow that it works for the likes of Logan and it is guaranteed that they do not make for a safer Logan, or indeed a better Logan, as they effectively are rubbishing our suburbs.
In light of the recent criticism given to LCC in relation to these scooters, Beam no doubt has given our suburb, Meadowbrook, perhaps some extra attention to try to get things ship-ship but as I drive around our suburbs it is clear they are still failing.
The simple fact is that Beam cannot manage the inappropriately parked scooters and if they can’t come up with a management plan, that works, in this so-called trial period, then it does not bode well for our city’s future visual amenity and maintaining a cleaner/prouder image that LCC has worked hard in so many areas to improve.
Stuart Webber,
Meadowbrook.
