Chilli festival heats up Village Green

Temperatures are set to soar at the fourth annual Chillogan Chilli Festival on at Logan Village Green later this month.

Held on Sunday 20th November from 11am, the event will feature Hellfire Alley displaying all things chilli including sauces and plants, live entertainment, four Chilli Challenges and an Afterburn Bar to cool off, as well as food trucks, kids’ activities, rides and a Skateboard Competition.

Event Organiser, Scarlett Habanero said Chillogan is the only festival run by a private organiser in Logan City.

“I love bringing this event to the people of Logan who have always welcomed me so wholeheartedly,” she said.

“I’ve been dreaming of doing it at the Village Green for a couple of years now and this was two years in the making.”

“I just love seeing the smiles on peoples faces and getting the chilli loving community together!”

Ms Habanero, who is a singer, said she started the event in 2018.

“I used to go to the Herb and Chilli Festival in Yarra Valley in Melbourne as a performer and really enjoyed it,” she said.

“I love chilli, I have it for breakfast, lunch and dinner and I wanted to start something of my own.”

“We now have Chilli events all over Queensland, and soon will expand into Sydney and Darwin.”

Ms Habanero said the event will bring some fun and engagement to the area.

“Logan sometimes gets the raw end of the stick and a negative wrap, so I wanted to bring something positive to the community and something Logan can call its own,” she said.

“It’s a small boutique style event and very personal, but we have a lot of things happening on the day – including 8 hours of back-to-back entertainment, comps with cash prizes and lots of goodies to try.”

“We have local entertainers, local artists, local products and a lot of support from local businesses, it’s really about supporting local talents and local businesses.”

Sponsored by Logan City Council, the event will also host a new competition called the Hot Moves Skate Comp in partnership with Rumble Skateboards. The competition will be held in the Village Green’s newly built skatepark from 6pm, with prizemoney to be won.

There will also be a mix of market stalls and food vendors in the Chilli Festival section of the showgrounds providing super-hot offerings.

“People come to eat hot, hot chilli or to experience something new, so we will deliver,” Ms Habanero said.

“Of course, there’ll be regular food on offer as well, and don’t forget the special chilli beer and chilli cocktails in the Afterburn Bar.”

Local resident, Fred Huntley is looking forward to this year’s event.

“I really enjoyed seeing all the stalls and tasting the new sauces and rubs last year and I always come home with a new sauce or chilli plant,” he said.

“The Viking Bike Club is something I’m really looking forward to seeing, they are there for a great cause. We bid on a ride at the first festival we went to, and we won, I had a great ride on the back of the three-wheeler bike.”

“I also really love seeing all the local suppliers there and one thing I always try and do is support local, Bee All Natural is always there and their Chilli Peanut Brittle with honey is hot as!”
