Children make voices heard

What a day it was on Friday October 15 on the manicured lawns of Queens Gardens in Brisbane CBD.

Proceedings began with a warm ‘welcome to country’ to make us all feel at home.

Wasting no time and in front of a diverse range of people of all ages who were there to support SS4C several gifted young speakers got on with it, holding nothing back and stating clearly to those present: “We are striking from school to demand that our politicians take our future seriously and treat climate change as what it is: a crisis.”

Their demands were stated:

1. No new coal, oil and gas projects, including the Adani mine

2. 100% renewable energy generation and exports by 2030

3. Fund a just transition and job creation for all fossil-fuel workers and their communities

After formal speaking was completed the march was led by a handpicked group of younger kids who headed off up George Street across the Victoria Bridge and then along Grey Street to Glenelg Street to finish at Musgrave Park.
