Charities unite for those in need

From this Wednesday (September 28), charities will unite every Wednesday to help those most in need.

Defenders for Hope, Orange Sky, Merciful Servants and Street Doctor will offer people a hot meal, along with laundry and health services.

It’ll be at 108 Anzac Avenue, Hillcrest, from 4.30pm until 6.30pm.

“At a time when the cost of living is rising and many people are sleeping rough or in cars, this night aims to provide them with a safe space to get a meal, have a chat, and connect them with the services and help they need,” organisers said.

The event is part-run by Defenders for Hope, an op-shop that assists victims and survivors of domestic violence with finding local programs that may be able to provide assistance.

Defenders for Hope is proud to work alongside OrangeSky, Street Doctors, and Merciful Servants to provide vital services to those in crisis and need.

“The community is really hurting at the moment it’s not just men and women, it’s also families,” Defenders for Hope founder Kathy Smith said.

“It’s an opportunity to get something to eat, wash their clothes, and have a chat – all with respect and dignity.”
