Donald James Waters OAM is an experienced artist in his 70s, but said his art was young, energetic and refreshing.
His latest exhibition is on display at the Beenleigh Historical Village.
“I don’t do the same stuff over and over – I’m always evolving, I’m looking, I’m loving,” he said.
He worked as the first artist for Quest Newspapers in the 80s and later The Gold Coast Sun, before pursuing painting full-time.
Now he is an accomplished artist with paintings belonging to The Royal Collection (previously Queen Elizabeth II’s art collection).
“I did paintings for the Queen in 2002 or 2003, and she loved my humour, and she loved the colour and everything, and she took two home,” Mr Waters said.
His new exhibition will open to special guests on 1 December, and to the public on 2 and 3 December, from 9am – 2pm.
