THE academic and community achievements of six students have been rewarded with bursaries to help continue university studies.
Bursaries worth $5000 will offset the cost of textbooks, travel and other educational expenses and were awarded by the local business community and Logan City Council.
Winners were Amelia Xiong (Greenbank), Tong Qiu (Springwood), Laura Bocos (Eagleby), Isabelle Bunker (Rochedale South), Lachlan Wicking (Cornubia) and Annie Meredith (Greenbank).
Ms Xiong will study for a Bachelor of Echocardiography and a Cardiac Physiology/Graduate Diploma of Echocardiography at Central Queensland University.
Ms Qiu will undertake a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) at Griffith University.
Ms Bocos will study a Bachelor of Nursing, also at Griffith University.
Mr Wicking is currently studying a Bachelor of Engineering at the University of Queensland.
Ms Bunker is also at Griffith University, completing a Bachelor of Physiotherapy.
Ms Meredith will continue working at the Logan Hospital while studying a Bachelor of Nursing.
Mayor Darren Power said the local business community understands the importance of higher education.
“Most importantly, these bursaries will lessen the financial pressure on these students, and allow them to focus on their studies,” he said.
