Last year’s annual budget was a historical moment – we delivered the City of Logan’s first $1 billion budget.
We set the wheels in motion to invest in the future of our growing city – better lifestyles for the residents that live here now, and those who will live here in generations to come.
In less than two weeks’ time council will hand down our annual budget once again, however I acknowledge times are tough for many in our community. With the continued rising costs of living there is a lot of pressure on people across the city.
As an organisation council is not exempt from these rising costs. Council is a billion-dollar business and the cost of doing business in these times has influenced this year’s budget discussions.
But the cost of things like construction materials, building roads and running a fleet of vehicles has a significant impact on our bottom line.
These rising costs and Australia’s highest inflation rate since 2001 are also why as a city we must think differently and take a more considered approach to our budget.
As our city grows and more people and businesses call Logan home, we must balance the delivery of services for our future generations with being a fiscally responsible business.
To do this we must be smart and forward-thinking. One thing this city has always been good at is paving our own path and creating our own success.
Many, many hours of discussion, debate and decision making have gone into our budget and I’m grateful to my fellow councillors who are committed to doing the best for our residents.
We are committed to building on today for a brighter tomorrow for our growing city.
