Brisbane buses broach Logan

Brisbane’s metro bus service is set to expand as far as north Logan in time for the 2032 Olympics, according to a new plan.

The proposed expansion of the fully electric, high-frequency public transport service would see 22 stations added across the outer suburbs of Brisbane, including at Springwood.

The state government and south-east council of mayors are in the process of putting together the business case and have written to the federal government seeking financial support.

It is said the “long-term plan” would prepare the region for future growth pressures, along with the Brisbane Olympics which is less than eight years away.

Logan mayor Jon Raven said the announcement was “huge” for the city.

“Rapid public transport from Springwood to Brisbane would be an absolute gamechanger for both our residents and our roads,” Cr Raven said.

“We are seeing more and more congestion down the M1.

“This gets buses off roads and into the busway, this will mean that our buses in Logan can run straight to the metro and the metro can deliver our community, our workers to Brisbane.”

Springwood MP Mick de Brenni said there had been a “significant uptick” in public transport use since 50 cent fares were introduced, so “adding additional services will make it even more attractive to leave the car at home”.

“This will ensure more locals here in our community can choose public transport, busting congestion on our busy roads,” he said.
