Two 65-metre cranes piecing together new storeys at Logan Hospital have names.
After a competition which attracted about 100 names, the Logan community and hospital staff have opted “Boomer” and “McCrane”.
Winners Myah Excell, a Year 4 student from St Matthews Primary School in Cornubia, and Isabella Gardner, a registered nurse from the hospital, will now have their crane names proudly displayed on each piece of machinery.
Myah said her name is an extension of a boom which is a part of a crane and “it’s catchy”.
Ms Gardner from the hospital’s Perioperative Services unit said her name was a playful spin on a well-known advertisement – “Ahhh McCain…you’ve done it again!”
Member for Macalister Melissa McMahon said construction on the hospital’s $460 million expansion project was powering ahead, having reached level seven of eight.
“This project will deliver an additional 206 beds and treatment spaces by 2024 – increasing the number of beds at the hospital by almost half,” Ms McMahon said.
“This project will significantly boost capacity and deliver some much-needed relief for the Logan Hospital emergency department, which provided care to around 110,000 patients last year.”
