Bonded by a pack of cards

Some people playing cards at the Logan Euchre Club have been living in Woodridge/Kingston for 50 years and they wouldn’t have it any other way.
The club started in 1989 with a group of 16 people.
“We started playing on Wednesday mornings in a small room at St Pauls school in Jean St, Woodridge,” club member Valda Wernowski said.
“It was advertised every week in the Logan News and Sunday church newsletter. It didn’t take too long before the word got out and we had about 35 players in 2002.
“We moved into the parish hall and played there until 2012.”
But parking became a problem for some of the older people, leading to a decision to move to the Beenleigh Darts Club on Railway Parade.
Then, Covid hit.
The club has started up again and is back at Beenleigh Darts Club, Tuesdays at 1pm.
Afternoon tea is supplied and the cost is $5.
The club is affiliated with 17 clubs and travels as far as South West Rocks in NSW for tournaments.
