Big business puts trust in Logan

I talk about jobs a lot and council is constantly seeking and exploring new ways to create opportunities for our residents.

What’s not widely known is council’s strategy to attract businesses to the city. Job targets are tied to that strategy to ensure strong economic outcomes.

National companies that specialise in manufacturing, transport, logistics and innovation are knocking on our door.

A great example is one of the world’s leading logistics companies, DHL, which employs 132 people from its new $38 million Berrinba distribution facility.

The company employs more than 380,000 people in 220 countries and can ship any sized package to any part of the world.

It’s new site in Berrinba will service Southeast Queensland. The facility is impressive in size and capability, comprising two giant sheds spanning 19,000 square metres.

The expansion enabled the company to create 55 new jobs. That’s great news for the City of Logan.

DHL is one of number of companies that have successfully been selected via council’s Investment Attraction Incentive Fund.

The initiative is a rubber-hits-the-road strategy that is gaining real traction with national companies now investing money back into the local economy.

Other companies have also set up shop in Logan as a result of the fund.

HELP enterprises is an employment provider for people with disability. They also assist people who have been out of the workforce for a long time to re-enter the workforce as well as support disadvantaged people to secure employment. Employing 77 people, the business has built a warehouse and distribution facility at Crestmead to service the South Brisbane area.

Pinnacle Hardware is a national garage storage supplier, specialising in innovative and quality storage solutions, garden sheds, pet enclosures and hardware. They supply exclusively to Bunnings and their new site at Berrinba is a distribution facility for Queensland. They employ more than 30 people.

Another proud local success story is Go1 – an online training and education service provider with their global headquarters based at Underwood. The business moved to Brisbane but returned to its Logan roots and is now leading the way in innovation. The company has raised $40 million, including a big chunk of funding from Microsoft’s venture funding arm M12.

Over at Beenleigh, The Plumbing Industry Climate Action Centre is an industry-led organisation, combining employers and unions to create and teach the highest standards of vocational training for plumbing, gas fitting, air conditioning and fire safety. Their new site in Beenleigh will combine two of their existing Queensland training facilities to become their largest site in the state.

Set to employ 70 people at its new Meadowbrook facility, pharmaceutical and health supplement manufacturer ATP Science has increased their capability and capacity to do research and development and access international markets.

Other companies that are expanding after relocating to City of Logan include Border Express, Imaging Solutions and B&C Plastics, all employing people and pumping money back into the local economy.

These success stories are a vote of confidence for our city and open up real job opportunities for our residents.
