Last term, the Year Fives at Bethania Lutheran School completed a project-based earning unit, setting out to answer the following question: What are the issues that Australia and its people face and how can we use empathy and compassion to make a difference in our society?
Their focus was on Australian natural disasters, particularly the recent floods and bushfires.
Students wrote a persuasive text addressed to businesses in the local community, providing reasons why they should contribute to Bethania’s upcoming fundraiser event.
All donations were to be given to those affected by the floods.
The response was overwhelmingly positive, with many businesses donating prizes for the raffle.
The event concluded with a colour run for the students, from which more money was raised along with items to create ‘joy bags’ for victims of natural disasters.
The kindness for donations was overwhelming.
The Year 5s would like to thank everyone for their contributions, and for making the colour run such a fun school community event.
