The artwork on the side of The York in Beenleigh might be the talk of the town, but the developer is celebrating acknowledgement for its construction expertise.
The seven-storey tower was a finalist in the “construction excellence” category of the UDIA Queensland Awards for Excellence.
Built by Gold Coast company Alder Constructions, The York was a collaboration with investLogan and has since been sold to a superannuation fund for $32 million.
The award category acknowledges a high standard of internal and external construction, innovation, project delivery, and sustainability.
The building was designed by local firm Conrad Gargett.
Alder Constructions general manager Dean Cheffers said the project presented several challenges throughout the construction process which were not only overcome by his team but resulted in an exceptional outcome.
“Alder Constructions is honoured to be involved in the construction of The York – an exemplary project that marks the first major commercial office development in the area in more than a decade,” Mr Cheffers said.
“Our team worked closely with the development team at all stages of construction to ensure benchmark outcomes were achieved for all stakeholders and as a result, the sustainability and engineering elements of the project are best in class for the type and size of the build.
“It is a privilege to be involved in the delivery of such a monumental building for the Logan business community.”
The precinct has a total of 4660sqm of commercial space including four SoHo apartments, a ground floor retail space, and a dual-level underground car park.
“The vision behind The York was to deliver a premium workspace and we’ve been extremely pleased with the incredible standard of design and craftmanship that has seen a design-led project delivered to the Logan community,” investLogan chair Steve Greenwood said.
“The York pays tribute to the rich history of the area and is already realising its purpose to bring local and national investment to our region.
“We are incredibly grateful for the support and involvement of all the project partners that have played a key role in this project.”
The project employed a high percentage of locals and engaged with Beenleigh State High School trade training students and local indigenous partnerships.
Alder Developments general manager Greg Tupicoff says the A-grade office tower has been instrumental in cementing Beenleigh as a key commercial hub for the district.
The York was completed in August.
