Advocacy workshops for those living with disabilities, their carers and families will be held at Beenleigh and Logan Central over the next few weeks.
Led by Aged and Disability Advocacy (ADA) Australia, the Words 2 Action workshops will aim to help locals speak up confidently in areas like NDIS, housing, employment, healthcare and relationships.
Whether it’s help navigating the school system or general day-to-day challenges, the free events will be accessible to all and held at Logan Central Library on 14 August and 9 December, and at Beenleigh Library on 15 September and 17 November.
ADA Australia disability services manager Rebcca Daniloff said people with disabilities and their families faced challenges from several complex systems.
“Having the knowledge and awareness of how to raise an issue, how to have their voice heard and how to negotiate the outcomes that they would like, can be really challenging,” she said.
“So we’re wanting to provide really practical support to people so that they’re able to take maybe one or two more steps forward to having their voice heard.”
