An alleged arsonist from Ipswich destroyed a unit at Beenleigh last night (Monday 20 November).
Local detectives arrested the 24-year-old woman and charged her with arson after the unit, part of a complex on Main Street, was destroyed by fire.
Police were called to the complex at 9.45pm and found the unit in flames.
The occupant of the unit, a 32-year-old man, was not inside at the time of the fire.
Around 20 residents were evacuated from the complex.
Police say initial investigations suggest none of the adjoining units were “badly damaged”.
“The 24-year-old woman was found nearby by police and was arrested without incident,” police said in a statement.
“She was transported to the Southport Watchhouse where she was charged with one count of arson.”
It is believed the man and woman are known to each other.
The unit will remain a crime scene until the morning to allow forensic officers to conduct examinations.
Investigators are appealing to anyone who may have CCTV footage from Main Street, or who may have witnessed the fire, to contact them.
