A Logan radio personality last Sunday hit the stage at Brisbane City Hall as part of the Lord Mayor’s Seniors’ Gala Concert.

Alan Casonati, who is sales manager and part-time presenter at Radio 101fm, made his way through a series of singing and performing masterclasses in order to gain the opportunity to perform live.

Mentors included Simon Gallaher, Jackie Love, Geraldine Turner, Melissa Western and Ingrid James.

At the end of the masterclasses which taught state presence, vocals and audience reaction, 12 of 130 applicants were chosen to perform in the gala concert.

Mr Casonati sang the Elvis Presley hit The Wonder of You before joining a finale of Sweet Caroline with the mentors.

It’s not the first time Mr Casonati has performed. He was lead singer in a band in the 1960s and more recently had teamed with fellow 101fm presenter Terry Lindsay to put on a show at various lifestyle villages in the Logan area.

In the 1960s and 70s, he worked under the name Alan Cass as a solo performer, appearing in floor shows and cabarets around Brisbane.

Later, he fronted a band called ReVu, and performed regularly at The Mediterranean Village on Magnetic Island near Townsville.

He said Sunday’s gala show was a great opportunity to “have some fun”.
