Some of Africa’s most flexible and talented performers are crossing the Indian Ocean to amaze Logan audiences with the energetic, family-friendly Cirque Africa.
Featuring everything from acrobats to dancers, musicians to contortionists – the two-hour show will take locals on a journey through traditional African culture.
The African troupe combines the best of traditional dance, live music, pan spinning, hand balancing, and many more feats to depict the “pulsating heart of Africa”.
Troupe captain Mohamed Tadei, who goes by the state name Pengo, said Cirque Africa was a show not to be missed.
“The Logan audience have to come as many times as possible, and they have to tell their friends and family to come and watch this amazing show from Africa,” he said.
“It is a lot of fun – there’s joy, comedy, and it is full of energy.”
Pengo, who is from Tanzania, a country in east Africa, will perform a balancing act during the show.
Known as Rola Bola, Pengo’s act consists of performing on a wobbly, flimsy tower made of board stacked on laterally lying pipe.
Pengo said the tower was stacked “higher and higher and higher”, requiring ultimate balance and concentration, all while he is juggling balls and bowling pins.
He said audiences were often scared – to the point of closing their eyes – while he is performing.
“Rola Bola is a breath-taking act,” he said.
The show is produced and directed by Winston Ruddle, also known as Papa Africa, who gained prominence with the hit Broadway show Cirque Mother Africa.
Cirque Africa is showing at the Logan Entertainment Centre on Tuesday 3 September at 7.30pm.
