I am compelled to write this letter of praise for a very touching moment I received at a local store on Saturday May 28.
I am a resident at Elements Retirement Village in Denis Road Springwood, and several of our lovely residents are involved in charity organisations.
I recently did some shopping for several items of clothing that I felt would assist one particular charity that supports people who have no home to go to and with this cold weather, I decided to assist.
As I looked around the shop I was assisted by the two beautiful people at the counter.
The three of us started a casual conversation and we discussed the different shirts and trousers that I was purchasing.
In our conversation I mentioned to them that they were for an organisation who assists many people who do not have a permanent residence to call home.
The gentleman asked me if I wouldn’t mind waiting for a moment as he was assisting another customer.
I was talking to this lovely lady at the counter when the gentleman returned with a shopping trolley full, overloaded full, with shirts, trousers, socks and other items of clothing.
I was taken aback and speechless.
They both gave me a smile and advised me that this was a gift to me for the organisation that I am supporting.
I advised them that I am not involved with that particular organisation as I was just donating, but they both said that this was for the people in need.
I must say that I was slightly emotional as this was such a beautiful gesture of love and kindness for people unknown to them and with no expectation of anything in return.
Well, my letter is to say that love, kindness and compassion is not dead and I thank these beautiful people for their total kindness in an unexpected and swift event that I will never ever forget.
Name withheld by request,
Springwood.
