Beenleigh High has been a mainstay in the community since 1963. The school opened to meet what was then a growing need in the community for secondary education.
Since that time Beenleigh High, nestled on a former farm that ran down to the banks of the Albert River, has witnessed tremendous change demographically, economically and industrially. But the school has remained at the forefront of education in the region.
Academically, the school has consistently performed well giving students the opportunity to achieve their goals.
Included in these results were the outstanding success of Erynn Dernelly, our Dux from 2018 receiving an OP 1 for her Year 12 studies. This is testament to the dedication she put into her studies.
Underlying these results is outstanding teaching practice embedded in the school in programs as diverse as having two teams in the top 10 Titration Competition in Queensland and both qualifying for the National Finals competing under the tutelage of outstanding and long serving Chemistry teacher Jan Robbins to the innovative school designed program “Operation ComMANdo” aimed at refocussing our disengaged students into higher performing students by building self-confidence and esteem. Every student is catered for!
The school’s ex-students also provide a rich source of support to the school in many and varied programs whether it be in former school captain Greg Hammel providing advice to agriculture students on strawberry production, former senior leader Steven Haase providing school based traineeships, or former school captain Dr Jennifer Cronin and the staff of Marco Polo Changzhou allowing our students to gain work experience in and international 5-Star hotel supported by the schools dedicated P and C under the leadership of Nate Hamon.
Obviously Covid impacted this year’s program so the students gained work experience at the Pullman International in Cairns. What an opportunity.
Linking students to the world of work is core to the school’s motto of Semper Altiora (Aim Higher) and Beenleigh High has an outstanding program of School based Traineeships and Apprenticeships.
The Senior Schooling Hub has over 150 students participating in a broad range of programs aimed at preparing students for the world of work.
Adding rich depth to each student’s skillset is the schools outstanding program of Micro Credentials supported by research in conjunction with the Melbourne University where each student has the opportunity to build a learner profile in a digital platform that showcases their skills as an individual.
Google “Beenleigh High Credly” to view our collection of credentials. And when students leave Beenleigh High they can stay in touch through our “Link and Launch” program that connects post-school students to a world of opportunity.
Caring is also a core element of school programs and our Student Council raise funds for a number of causes each year and especially working with McDonalds Beenleigh who have worked with students to support our families in need with children in hospital over the past five years.
Community engagement and the support of our many business partners is central to the success of the school.
In 2021 the school rana packed out 3 performance musical “High School Spoofical” as part of the school’s creative arts progam that also includes music, dance, drama and art workshops with internationally recognised artist Mr Don Waters OAM giving every student the opportunity to flourish.
Please contact the school principal for any further information around these or any other programs in Aboriginal and Torres Islander Education, Hospitality, Sport, Cultural Awareness and Development and Agriculture. Beenleigh High continues today the tradition started in 1963.
