Every Queenslander deserves a job. They deserve the dignity of work.
That’s why our COVID-19 Economic Recovery Plan is all about creating jobs for Queensland, and the latest ABS data confirms our plan is working.
Our state’s unemployment rate is now down to 5.1 per cent, its lowest level in 12 years, with more than 500 jobs created in Queensland every single day last month.
This is great result and something we can all be proud of, but there’s no time to rest – we’ve got to keep pursuing better outcomes for communities like Logan.
The 2021-22 Queensland Budget I handed down last month acts on this need, investing in more jobs and greater opportunities for Queenslanders.
This includes the $3.34 billion Queensland Jobs Fund to create new jobs in sectors like manufacturing, aviation, defence, renewables and energy.
We’re also keeping our successful Skilling Queenslanders for Work program going, with $9.08 million for Logan that will help more than 1700 locals find employment.
Because as well as creating new jobs, we want to equip people with the skills and training they need to secure the job they want.
Thanks to the exceptional efforts of Queenslanders following the health advice through this pandemic, our economic bounceback has become the envy of the world.
Case in point: since May last year our state has recovered 300,000 jobs – 30 per cent of all jobs nationwide!
At its heart the 2021-22 Queensland Budget has a fundamental lesson about COVID-19, that if you protect the health of your people then jobs will grow.
Now, it’s time to keep building on these numbers, for the benefit of all Queenslanders – like you.
