Councillors need to speak up

I sent a letter to the CEO and all elected members of Logan City Council about a month ago, and thought you may be interested in its contents.

But what concerns me is the total lack of a response from anyone on the concerns shown in the letter.

To me, it’s shown me that this letter is of no concern to any councillor, the mayor or stand-in CEO. In my 61 years of voting, I’ve never seen or heard of such a duly-elected local government being so ignorant.

At least an answer to myself, saying they got the letter, (that they) would look at the matters, would have been the right thing.

But no, not one replied. Not even the councillor for Division 8 which is where the problems are. To this councillor, I know you are a young man in his first term of government, but other councillors and the mayor have no rights to keep you silent in your job.

It was to the people of Division 8 in my term in office I used my eyes, ears, nose and mouth very well, as my records would prove.

So to all the council, I say this: You all should use the above. Speak out. You don’t have to go through council’s media office. The public want to know your feelings and thoughts on what’s going on.

Tell them, as you were elected by them to do as explained before in this letter.

Bob Lye,

Chambers Flat.

Editor’s note:

My Lye’s letter to councillors addresses items of concern, including:

  • Ponding of water in (Res A) streets;
  • Potential traffic dangers along Chambers Flat Road; and
  • Availability of public toilets.

The letter, undated but sent to councillors prior to December 15, also expressed concern that councillors were not publicly discussing issues of community concern.
