Hey politician person, no need to call me

I received a phone call this week from someone claiming to be representing a politician.

They rang the mobile, so I’d crept my way on to some list somewhere which says it’s okay to spray rhetoric that messes with my mind.

And I’m not sure I like it.

The person who rang wasn’t from a foreign country, asking me to send my bank account details in order to deposit my lottery winnings. It wasn’t asking me to reveal my computer password so they could “help” my with my internet speed.

Neither was it someone seeking 10 minutes of my time looking for survey responses, someone selling lottery tickets for charity, or a well-meaning soul who feels it’s my destiny to have solar panels on my already-solar paneled roof.

This was someone claiming to represent my local state politician.

I have never met this person, but they wanted to tell me my local state politician had worked very hard to ensure money would be spent in the next budget for a new school.

Or was it the last budget?

I don’t care, and it doesn’t matter. The point is that this is a new way of attracting votes. Instead of ringing me to spruik policies, plans and improvements to the world I live in, I was being reminded of the “hard work” being done by my incumbent.

Then, the thought crossed my mind. Maybe this wasn’t an election stunt.

Maybe this was a genuine call to tell me what was being achieved with my taxes in my local area because the person I’d elected last time was working very hard.

One phone call in three years. One school. That’s it.

Yep. I must say, that really got me thinking.

Thanks for the call.
