Harvesting awards for urban juggle

A residential development in Greenbank has been lauded for its “well-balanced arrangement of homes, vegetated thoroughfares and greenspaces”.

They’re familiar words to anyone who’s been through the sales pitch roundabout in the Logan development corridor.

And undoubtedly catchphrases which have sparked a population and building boom in the area.

But Harvest Rise at Greenbank by Intrapac Property caught the eye of the judges in the residential subdivision category of the recent Queensland Urban Development Institute Awards.

“Harvest Rise creates a vibrant community that lives in harmony with nature, connects to the surrounding residential areas and open spaces, and offers diverse housing choices to incoming residents,” the judges’ statement said.

“The judges were impressed with the development’s central linear park and biodiversity corridor linking vegetation for native fauna and providing a community green space for all residents to enjoy.”

The estate is a stone’s throw away from Parklands Christian College and backs on to a council nature reserve in Greenbank.

“We let the natural features of the site dictate the opportunities for this project, with a thoughtful masterplan, high quality landscaping and housing design guidelines,” Intrapac Property head officer Max Shiffman said.

The layout of the community also has a slight quirky side to it.

“We did something unusual by making the homes lining this boulevard rear loaded, which is uncommon in Queensland,” Mr Shiffman said.

The judges rated the linear park highly for the way it has linked in with the surrounding nature reserve and for its community resources, such as a park, amphitheatre and walking trails through nature.

“This park also acts as a biodiversity corridor with important vegetation for native fauna, while playing a dual role as valuable community space,” Intrapac Property said.

The developer was also endorsed for its environmental considerations in relation to helping ecosystems, and dealing with waste, energy and water.

Harvest Rise resident Bill Jones has worked on several subdivisions as a tradie and then developer throughout his career. He said this one deserves the recognition.

“I’ve done a few subdivisions, and this is one of the best in terms of its layout, it’s a real lovely community with a good feel to it,” he said.
