Disturbing figures show the City of Logan has the second lowest rate of Covid vaccinations in Queensland.
Figures released by Member for Rankin Jim Chalmers showed 13.2% of people over the age of 15 had been fully vaccinated.
“This is the second lowest vaccination rate in Queensland and the third lowest in Australia,” he said, spruiking the opposition’s idea to provide a one-off $300 payment to everyone who is fully vaccinated.
“This is a common sense way to boost vaccinations and deliver a shot in the arm to our local businesses that are really struggling,” Mr Chalmers said.
The federal government has since fast-tracked the delivery of Pfizer vaccines that were initially due to arrive in September.
The state government has announced that AstraZeneca will be dispersed to more than 100 GPs throughout the state and will be available to those over 18 who want them.
“Anthony Albanese and I recently thanked the doctors, nurses, police and volunteers at the Logan Entertainment Centre vaccination centre,” Mr Chalmers said.
“Like them, Albo and I want to see as many locals as possible vaccinated as quickly as possible.
“If the LNP had secured enough vaccines we know the amazing team at our community vaccination centre would be delivering many more jabs into many more local arms every day.”
Member for Forde Bert van Manen said there were almost 80 primary care vaccination sites in Logan, participating in the Covid-19 vaccination program – 70 general practices, two Commonwealth vaccination clinics and five Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander controlled health services.
“There are 15 general practices also administering the Pfizer vaccine in this region and It is anticipated that all participating general practices will have the opportunity to administer the Pfizer vaccine later this year, based on the vaccine supply,” Mr van Manen said.
“The sooner all Australians come forward and get vaccinated the sooner we can get back to life as we used to know it.”
