The Logan-Beaudesert region has been hit hard by storms since 2017 – the fourth most impacted region in the state.
Within the region, Shailer Park, Tanah Merah and Greenbank have hit the phones the most seeking help from their insurers.
Data provided by NRMA’s Wild Weather Tracker shows 55% of people are worried natural disasters are becoming more frequent and severe while 64% believe climate change is making severe weather and natural disasters worse.
New research on community preparedness revealed that while Queenslanders feel more prepared than residents in NSW or the ACT, there are still nearly 600,000 households that don’t feel ready to respond in the event of severe weather hitting their suburb.
“The last 18 months have been demanding for so many communities who’ve been hit by multiple disasters – from the Black Summer bushfires to extreme hail and storms. Not to mention the added pressure of a global pandemic,” direct claims manager Luke Gallagher said: .
“We’ve created the tracker to help communities understand that wild weather is getting more severe and happening more often. However, we can learn from these events and people can take practical steps to be better prepared, which could ultimately help save lives and property.”
The Gold Coast, Brisbane’s North-West suburbs and the Sunshine Coast were the hardest hit regions in Queensland.
