Well before shop shelves fill with tinsel, baubles and Santa hats, data from Google Trends shows there’s another telltale sign the festive season is nigh – a surge in search interest for jobs at Australia Post.
It happens this time every year.
Trending earlier than Christmas cake and candy canes, it seems people are keen to be part of the network delivering Christmas gifts across the nation.
Search interest is measured on a relative scale and does not represent total search volume.
Australia Post executive general manager people and culture Sue Davies said seasonal team members helped during the busiest time of year.
“Last year we delivered a record 111 million parcels in the lead up to Christmas and that wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible people working hard across our network,” Ms Davies said.
Australia Post is recruiting for 3500 positions across the country, including 900 in Queensland.
“Truck drivers and forklift operators are high on our wishlist as we prepare for the busiest time of year. We’re also looking for people to join our mail and parcel processing facilities across our network,” Ms Davies said.
Australia Post isn’t the only one gearing up for Christmas already.
Planning for Logan’s biggest Christmas event – the City of Logan Christmas Carols – is well underway.
Logan mayor Jon Raven said the events team was busy locking in the program and this year’s lineup was set to include more carols and more local talent.
“We heard your feedback from last year loud and clear about wanting a better sound system because, when over 10,000 people show up, we have to make sure everyone can rock out to their favourite carols,” Cr Raven said.
This year the free family carols will be held from 3pm-8pm on Saturday 5 December at Griffith University’s Meadowbrook campus.
“As always, we encourage local families to come along, bring a picnic rug and chairs, and enjoy a festive evening that will finish off with a spectacular fireworks show,” Cr Raven said.
There will also be food trucks, rides and activities.
