Young Logan rugby league players were challenged to bring the same teamwork they show on the field to conversations about mental health during a resilience workshop at Heritage Park.
Warriors Inspire Logan pathway players took part in the NRL State of Mind program at Logan Metro Sports Park on Monday, as the Youi Community Scrum entered the final leg of its third annual tour.
Former Warriors and New Zealand centre Clinton Toopi said the program used familiar football language and on-and-off-field activities to reduce stigma, improve understanding and connect participants with support.
“Today we’re at the Logan Metro Sports Park delivering the State of Mind program with Youi support,” Toopi said.
“The program is delivered in areas that have been impacted by significant weather events, such as the Logan and Gold Coast areas.”
Youi chief executive Nat Simpson said the insurer wanted to contribute to recovery well beyond processing claims.
“These Community Scrums are one way we can make that meaningful contribution,” he said.
“It’s all about helping with the recovery and helping people thrive even though they’ve had tough times.”
