Dads are being invited to grab a hairbrush – and a beer – and learn how to braid their daughter’s hair.
Fatherhood platform Dad Mode is bringing its popular Braids + Beers session to the Monkey Tree Brewing Co at Slacks Creek this month.
Dad Mode founder Kirrily Jones said the event was inspired by Pints and Ponytails, a viral event format that emerged in the UK, where dads gather to learn how to style their children’s hair.
“I saw how strongly that concept resonated because it was practical, social and a bit unexpected,” Ms Jones said.
“It made dads feel included in something everyday and useful, without turning it into a lecture.”
Ms Jones said Dad Mode grew out of watching her own partner navigate the early stages of fatherhood.
“Dad Mode started after watching my own partner step into fatherhood and realising how little practical support seemed to exist specifically for dads,” she said.
“There are plenty of parenting resources available, but a lot of them feel generic, clinical or not really built with dads in mind.”
Ms Jones said she noticed fathers were looking for three things: practical confidence, useful skills and a space to connect with others in the same position.
The Logan event came about after MyCityLogan reached out to Dad Mode and then Monkey Tree Brewing Co expressed interest in hosting.
Megan Collins, one of the owners at Monkey Tree Brewing Co, said she had many family-oriented dads as customers, so supporting this event was a natural fit for the brewery.
Ms Jones said previous Braids + Beers events had been well received. “Every event we’ve run so far has either sold out or come very close,” she said.
“Dads tell us they enjoy learning something practical, but they also value being in a room with other dads who are going through similar experiences.
“It’s become clear quite quickly that dads are looking for more opportunities to connect, learn useful skills and spend time with other dads in ways that feel natural.”
Dad Mode plans to expand beyond Braids + Beers, with Ms Jones describing the event as “one entry point, not the whole brand”.
The company says it is developing a broader fatherhood platform including community catch-ups and practical skills sessions.
Braids + Beers is at Monkey Tree Brewing Co, at Slacks Creek from 3pm-5pm on Saturday 18 July.
