Rail closures to hit Logan holiday travel

Logan train passengers are being urged to plan ahead, with buses to replace trains on parts of the Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines during major school holiday rail works.

A Transport and Main Roads statement said extended track closures would affect the lines from 27 June to 20 July, with an earlier weekend closure also planned for 20–21 June.

Rail replacement buses would operate during the closures, which TMR said were needed so crews could safely work in the rail corridor while trains were not running.

The works include upgrades linked to Cross River Rail, new digital signalling between Beenleigh and Varsity Lakes, early works for the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project, and platform, signalling and track works for the Loganlea Station Relocation project.

Translink acting head Dean Helm said the closures would allow work on projects “critical to improving access to some of the fastest growing locations around south-east Queensland”.

“If you are travelling during this period – whether that’s to work, an appointment or a major event – I encourage you to plan ahead, consider your transport options, and allow plenty of travel time,” Mr Helm said.

From 27 June to 5 July, buses will replace trains between Varsity Lakes and Boggo Road.

From 6–19 July, buses will replace trains between Boggo Road and Banoon, with Beenleigh and Gold Coast line trains running as a combined all-stops service between Varsity Lakes and Banoon.

Passengers can plan trips through the Translink app, at translink.com.au, or by calling 13 12 30.
