Why such placid reporting?

I see, after reading your front page of June 8, that there will be an inquiry into the sacking of Logan councillors.

The reporting of this issue has been very placid. Why so? Is someone in the government stopping you from delving deeper into this travesty of justice?

How is it that a group of councillors can have their lives turned upside down, only to be found two years down the track that they’ve done nothing wrong?

My understanding is that they will receive no compensation, they certainly won’t get their jobs back – at least not until the next election.

What we don’t know is the amount of suffering and grief these people have gone through, being told they were criminals for two years.

Not only the councillors, but their families and supporters. They have all suffered.

The people who put them through this probably don’t consider the consequences of their actions. All they’re doing is a job. They blow in, do a few interviews, justify their existence to a minister they serve, and sleep very easy at night that their jobs are safe.

These so-called investigators who are doing our community a service should be held to account. They should understand the pain and suffering they’ve caused, seemingly without adequate proof.

How can you take elected representatives to task with any sort of proof which is tenuous? Surely, before overturning a democratic choice, you should be absolutely 100% certain that you’ve got the right information to satisfy the court.

This whole episode continues to be underplayed. No doubt it’s a nuisance to the current council, but they’re not the ones who’ve lost their livelihood as a result.
