Poolside living and open-plan design define long-held Shailer Park home

Swimming in the backyard pool is what homeowner Anna Pulitano says she will miss most about her Shailer Park property.

“I like to swim,” Ms Pulitano said. “It’s nine by four metres, so you’ve got a good length pool for lap swimming.”

Ms Pulitano and her family have lived in the house for more than three decades, moving in when it was just six months old in 1992.

Over that time, the home has been shaped to suit a growing family, with a major renovation in 2005 expanding both its size and flexibility.

The update added a new master bedroom with an ensuite, extended existing bedrooms, and opened up the kitchen and dining areas.

The changes reflected the needs of teenage children at the time.

“As teenagers, they got bigger rooms out of the renovations,” Ms Pulitano said. “Instead of having single beds, they had queen-size beds.”

The result is a five-bedroom home with multiple living zones.

Downstairs, a separate space can be used as a games room or entertaining area, while upstairs centres on an open-plan kitchen, dining and living space.

Ms Pulitano said the open plan layout made day-to-day living straightforward.

“You can be in the kitchen talking to someone in the dining area, you can see the TV, it is very much open-plan living,” Ms Pulitano said.

“I find it easy to clean because it’s all on one basic level, and it’s a flow-through for cleaning.”

Ms Pulitano said the house offered a balance between shared and private areas, allowing different activities to happen at once without interruption.

Outside, the pool and surrounding area became a focal point for family life, particularly as the children got older.

After 34 years, the decision to sell comes as she plans a move to the Sunshine Coast for a change of lifestyle.

“I just hope the next person can enjoy it. We really thoroughly enjoyed living there,” she said.
