MyCity Logan celebrates its 300th edition

By MyCity Media publisher Simon Holt

It’s always a proud moment when dreams become reality.

Today, MyCity Logan celebrates its 300th edition – six years in a market left without local news at the height of Covid.

What started as a husband-and-wife team scrambling to give the people of Logan their newspaper back has become much more than that.

We have – by a significant margin – become the city’s primary source of local news.

We have become an incubator for young journalists through our university intern program.
We have become an innovation hub, trialling new ways of telling, sharing and creating stories.

Recently, we created Scoutly, a news-industry advertising sales tool now used by newspapers in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.

Following our 2024 merger with Logan West News, we have grown into a stable that includes your weekly newspaper and five monthly hyperlocal magazines.

Most importantly, we have created a professional newsroom that cuts through the misinformation and disinformation of social media, giving Logan a news source it can trust.

Governments at all levels have recognised the important role local news organisations such as ours play in democracy.

It is our duty to watch the level of government closest to people’s daily lives, providing verified facts that our community can debate.

We hold power to account.
We provide a hub of information that encourages community participation.
We provide honest information.
Without us, Logan would be left with a vacuum filled by Facebook groups, rumour and, increasingly, partisan or AI-generated sites dressed up as local news.
Without us, Logan’s stories would rarely reach the wider news world.
None of this happens alone.
To our readers – thank you for picking us up every week, for sharing your stories, and for telling us when we get it wrong.
To our advertisers – thank you for backing local journalism. Every ad you place keeps a reporter in the council chamber and in your suburb.
To our team – thank you for the late nights, the deadlines and the care you bring to every page.
Local news is important – we would argue, an essential service.
Keep reading. Keep sharing. Keep backing the businesses that back local news.
This is why today is a proud day for us and for our city.

Subscribe to stay up-to-date with news from across Logan. You’ll receive a link to our digital newspaper direct to your inbox each week. It’s free.
