Hundreds of people gathered in Sunridge Park in Bahrs Scrub on Friday, 13 March to lay flowers, light candles, and remember the lives of a Belivah woman and her daughter who died last week.
The woman, 37, and her 11-month-old daughter were found dead in their house on Belivah Road, Belivah, on Thursday, 12 March, police said.
At around 7.30am, police responded to reports that a man, 38, had been hit by a car outside a supermarket on Beaudesert Beenleigh Road at Bannockburn.
Detective superintendent Christopher Ahearn, told the media that the man also had a visible injury, consistent with an “edged weapon” to his neck.
Mr Ahearn said investigations determined that the injured man had run to the Bannockburn supermarket from the Belivah Road address.
Police attended the Belivah Road property to notify the man’s family that he had been hit by a car.
It was there that officers discovered the bodies of the woman and child, whom they declared dead, Mr Ahearn said.
Two crime scenes have been established, Mr Ahearn said, one at the Belivah Road property, the other on Beadesert Beenleigh Road at Bannockburn.
Police were seen searching the grassed area between the property and the supermarket, according to media reports.
Police said they were closely investigating the relationship between the woman, the man, and the child.
At this stage, they believe the three are a family unit and were living together at the Belivah Road address at the time of the incident, Mr Ahearn said.
“Early indications are there are no domestic violence-related holdings from the Queensland Police Service perspective in relation to this family,” Mr Ahearn said.
Mr Ahearn said the investigation was still in its early stages and that police were examining all possibilities.
Police said the injured man was in a serious condition and remained unconscious in Princess Alexandra Hospital.
Police said the man had a number of injuries when emergency services arrived on the scene this morning, and that officers were working to determine a timeline of when these injuries occurred.
Mr Ahearn said police were anxious to speak with the man who is currently under police guard and receiving medical treatment.
Detectives from the Logan Criminal Investigation Branch and the Logan Child Protection Investigation Unit continue to investigate the matter, which they are treating as suspicious.
