Forum to empower women

Fifteen years ago, Karen Muras fled family and domestic violence and built a charity, Dandelion Safe Homes, to help others do the same.

On March 14, Ms Muras will be a keynote speaker at this year’s City Women Forum for Logan, where local women from a range of backgrounds will respond to issues like family and domestic violence, homelessness, and community connection.

Impact Care Services, which runs the women’s forum, a non-profit community service branch of
Impact Church said the event aimed to encourage and empower local women to thrive.

“This year’s Forum is intentionally designed to turn compassion into action,” a spokesperson for Impact Care Services said.

“We are not gathering simply to talk about challenges, but to strengthen collaboration and shared resolve among women and organisations who are ready to make a tangible difference, even if it’s one step at a time.

We know we can’t solve everything at once, but together, with shared purpose and determination, we can move our city forward.”

Ms Muras’ charity Dandelion Safe Homes runs construction training courses for women escaping family and domestic violence, to help them build ‘tiny homes’ to live in independently and for a low cost.

Ms Muras built her own tiny home after fleeing a domestic violence relationship and earning a degree in building design.

The City Women of Logan Forum will be held from 10am to 4pm on 14 March at Impact Church in Slacks Creek.
