Probus organisations around the country are celebrating 50 years since the first club in Australia was formed on 3 February 1976 in Sydney.
Logan Village’s Probus Club began on 16 October 2024 and saw its membership grow to 120 in less than a year.
Probus clubs are designed to connect older locals for regular social meetings and activities, the president of Logan Village’s Probus Club, Cherylyn Hitchin, said.
“Our club provides a welcoming space where people can meet new friends, stay active, and enjoy being part of their local community,” Ms Hitchin said.
“Probus is about friendship, staying connected, and giving people something to look forward to.
“It’s about having fun, catching up with friends, and enjoying life together.”
Probus clubs, run by club members, are tailored to suit local community interests.
More than 90,000 Australians are part of 1,300 Probus clubs in all corners of the country, and continue to be a network for support, friendship, and connection for its members, a Probus spokesperson said.
The Logan Village Probus Club meets at the Logan Village Community Hall on Wharf Street from 10am to 12pm on the third Wednesday of the month and is open to anyone retired or semi-retired.
